Your student account

As a student at Lund University, you are given a student account with a username and password. Once activated, this account gives you access to student email, learning platforms, library services, and file storage, among other things.

Forgotten to change your password?

13 December was the last day to change your password. If you forgot or did not change your password in time, you can find instructions here:

Password change – lu.se

Once you have activated your student account, you can use it as your login to a range of digital services, platforms and resources. See below.

Note that the email address you enter in Ladok under 'My Pages', whether it is your official student email address or your own private email address, will be used by most of the above systems and their administrators. To avoid missing relevant information, you should therefore choose an email address that you use regularly and check that it is correct.

Activate your student account

If you will be studying a programme or courses at Lund University, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your student account. The timing of this email will depend on when you applied and were admitted/nominated:

If you applied for degree studies or courses via universityadmissions.se, your student account will be created automatically shortly after you receive your Notification of Selection Results PDF via universityadmissions.se.

If you applied via universityadmissions.se in the later, Swedish/EU application round, it will be created after you have received your second and final Notification of Selection Results.

Once your student account has been created, you will receive an email (to the email address you provided when you applied) asking you to activate your account.

If you are an exchange student, you will receive an email with details on how to activate your student account once you have been added to our student record system, Ladok. This will be in early June for the autumn semester and early December for the spring semester.

The sooner you activate your account after receiving the email, the better (to avoid extra work later).

Note that activating your student account is not the same as registering for your studies. As well as activating your account, you'll probably need to attend a roll call or formal registration. These requirements vary from course to course, so it's important to find out what's required for your specific situation.

Please follow the instructions below to activate your student account:

  1. Go to https://passport.lu.se.
  2. Select 'Activate'. Use the One Time Password (OTP) at the bottom of the email with instructions. If you have a permanent Swedish personal identity number, there are also a number of alternative methods*.
  3. Log in with your personal identity number at the bottom of the email (temporary or permanent; temporary identity numbers contain a letter, e.g. 19900401T456. Only T, R, S, U and W numbers are valid).
  4. Follow the instructions and check that your User ID, e.g. ab1234cd-s, matches the one at the bottom of the email. Please remember your User ID (note that for some services, such as WiFi/Eduroam, you may need to enter it as ab1234cd-s [at] lu [dot] se).
  5. Choose a password to activate your account.

*If you have a permanent Swedish personal identity number, you can also activate your account with BankID, Freja eID+, a verified account at universityadmissions.se or eduID.

Your account should now be active.

If you have any problems activating your account, please email servicedesk [at] lu [dot] se (servicedesk[at]lu[dot]se)

Note that you will also need to set up alternative contact information so that you can reset your password in the future, see below.

Set up alternative contact information

When you activate your student account, you also need to register an alternate email address and mobile phone number (all international numbers are valid) to use if you forget your password and need to reset it.

Follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to https://passport.lu.se.
  2. Select 'User'.
  3. Select 'Contact Information Verification'.
  4. Enter your contact details.

If you want to change your first name in the University’s systems

Do you use a first name other than the one listed in the Swedish population register and would you also like it to be used in Lund University's systems? In that case, you need to apply to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) to make the change.

It is fully possible to change to a gender opposite name, i.e. a name considered typical for a gender other than your legal gender.

If you have a Swedish personal identity number, you can apply for a name change using your Bank ID on the Skatteverket website. After the name change has been approved, which often takes just a few hours, the new name is automatically entered in all of Lund University's systems, as well as in Ladok.

If you don't have a Swedish personal identity number and wish to change your name in the University's study administration systems, from the name you used at the time of application and admission, you must submit official documents (e.g. a copy of your passport) confirming the change. Please contact ladok [at] stu [dot] lu [dot] se (ladok[at]stu[dot]lu[dot]se) if this applies to you.

Depending on the type of change, there may be some costs associated with the change (for changes made at Skatteverket):

  • An application to switch first name (from one of your existing first names to another) is free of charge.
  • An application for a name change (to add, or change to, a completely new first name) costs SEK 250.

Termination of student accounts

Your student account will be deleted one year after your last registration in Ladok at Lund University.

You will be notified via your student email and the email address registered with Ladok one month before your account is deleted.

Your account will be deleted on the date announced in the notification.

  • Make sure to check the email addressed to your student account.

  • Tell anyone who only knows your student email to use a different email address in the future.

  • Take care of any files you have stored on Google Drive, Google Photos and any other services you have used, such as Sites. Note that you should not share the files but that you should download them instead. You can use Google Takeout to download all material at once.

    Go to Google Takeout

  • If you use Microsoft's OneDrive through your student account, you must take care of all your files there. Also look through any other Office 365 services.

  • Take care of your files in any home directory on university computers (for example at the Faculty of Engineering, LTH).

  • Keep in mind that you need to review most other services and logins linked to your student email (change email address, for example). In this way, you can avoid losing the ability to reset or change your password for those services.
