Academic Calendar

The official academic year at Lund University is divided into two semesters (autumn and spring), each lasting 20 weeks.

Semester dates at Lund University

The academic year 2024/2025

  • Autumn semester 2024: Monday 2 September 2024 – Sunday 19 January 2025
  • Spring semester 2025: Monday 20 January 2025 – Sunday 8 June 2025

The academic year 2025/2026

  • Autumn semester 2025: Monday 1 September 2025 – Sunday 18 January 2026
  • Spring semester 2026:  Monday 19 January 2026 – Sunday 7 June 2026

The exact duration of the semesters may vary slightly from faculty to faculty and also from year to year, depending on which weekday the official dates are that year. It is therefore advisable to check for exact dates directly with the department(s) concerned.

Programmes with different start dates for 2024/2025:

  • All international Bachelor's and Master's programmes at the School of Economics and Management start the Wednesday prior to the regular autumn semester, for newly admitted students.
  • The Master's in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science starts the Wednesday prior to the regular autumn semester, for newly admitted students.
  • The Master's in Psychology starts the Thursday prior to the regular autumn semester, for newly admitted students.
  • The Master's programmes in European Affairs, Welfare Policies and Management, Global Studies, Social Studies of Gender, Development Studies, Politics and Society of the Contemporary Middle East and Social Social Scientific Data Analysis all start the Friday prior to the regular autumn semester, for newly admitted students.

Please note that this list of programmes may be subject to change and that you should check with your programme coordinator or department in case you have any questions about the start date. 

Arrival Days for international students

Arrival Day for students starting their studies in autumn 2024 will be 20 August 2024.

Arrival Day for students starting their studies in the spring semester usually takes place in early January.

Christmas and Easter holidays

There is no official break in the academic calendar for Christmas or Easter. However, in practice, there is usually a break in classes over the Christmas/New Year and Easter periods, including public holidays. The exact dates of these breaks are set by each department. Please check with your programme/department to confirm what applies to you.
