Lund University 350 years

Jubilee Year, 19 December 2016 to 28 January 2018

Lund University celebrated its 350th anniversary from 19 December 2016 to 28 January 2018. As the University was founded on 19 December 1666, but was not officially inaugurated until 28 January 1668, the jubilee lasted 13 months instead of one year.

During the 13-month jubilee, the University offered almost 400 events involving the general public, students, staff, researchers and collaborators.

The celebrations received a lot of media attention and awareness of the jubilee was high both locally and in the rest of Sweden. One in five Swedes and more than 50% of the local population knew that Lund University was celebrating its 350th anniversary.

An eventful jubilee year

Five well-attended science weeks were organised during the jubilee year. These science-themed weeks highlighted some of the major challenges of our time. Two weeks were devoted to art and music: Live at Lundagård and Art in Time and Space.

We also organised a year-long jubilee course with 36 open lectures at the different faculties, as well as the first-ever Alumni Homecoming Weekend and a big party for students and staff at the University.

Other events included an auction of jubilee medals, a special super show, the unveiling of a jubilee sculpture in Lundagård and much more.

Recorded lectures

Several of the science week and jubilee course lectures were recorded and can be found on our YouTube channel.
