What Yushu says about the Master's in Service Management, Tourism
Introducing Yushu
Hi! My name is Yushu and I'm the student ambassador for the Master's programme in Service Management, Tourism. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the programme, courses, student life, and life in Lund and Sweden via the Unibuddy Platform, where you can chat with me (see below). Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships, or residence permits.
About the programme and the teaching style
Why did you choose Lund University?
"I wanted to study in Europe and was looking for a two-year programme in tourism or any related field in social science. I searched for so many programmes and finally found that Service Management at Lund University was the best choice for me."
What do you think of your programme so far? Does it meet your expectations?
"I like it! Truth be told, it is much harder than I expected, but it is challenging me to step out of my comfort zone. Learning from a social science perspective is attractive!"
What is the best thing about your programme?
"Everything is new and brilliant! I like the way in which the courses are designed since you need to balance your time between reading and lectures – it is not an easy thing, but is worthwhile."
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"My professor once said that, at the Master’s level, self-study is very important. Therefore, the professors tend to present the main points or logic behind the topic or readings and give students enough time to think by themselves. But each professor has a unique teaching style, that’s so interesting!"
How international is your programme?
"My classmates come from over 20 countries all over the world. You can hear people chatting in different languages during the break and we have several opportunities to do group work with others."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies?
"We had two excursions to Malmö and Copenhagen, which were amazing. Our professor guided us during the day and taught us many interesting history stories."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"From my personal experience, the Service Management programme is challenging. We have a long reading list for every course and an exam every month. Because of this, you can struggle, but learn and grow a lot at the same time."
Thoughts on being an international student at Lund, spare time and tips for prospective students
What is it like being an international student at Lund University?
"It has been wonderful since you feel that you are taken care of. Many emails and opportunities have been received and provided. The staff on campus are very nice."
What do you do in your spare time?
"Until now, I have managed to play the guitar and bamboo flute, which are skills that I never thought I could master. I draw some paintings and read novels as well."
Do you have any advice for students who are considering coming to Lund?
"Don’t hesitate! Studying at Lund University has been one of the best choices that I have ever made in my life!"
