Ordovicium i Fågelsångskärnan-2, Skåne : stratigrafi och faciesvariationer

The Ordovician in the Fågelsång-2 drill core : stratigraphic subdivision and facies analysis

Author

  • Johan Kristensson

Summary, in English

Ordovician strata are well represented in the Fågelsång valley in south-central Scania (Skåne), southern Sweden, but exposures of such deposits are relatively few and most of the present outcrops are small. In order to study a stratigraphically more complete succession from the area, a core drilling, here referred to as Fågelsång-2, was conducted in 2013. The drilling was stopped at a depth of 64,87 m. The succession in the drill core is dominated by dark grey graptolitic shales ranging from the Dapingian to the lowermost Sandbian. The Middle Ordovician Komstad Limestone is the only prominent limestone unit in the succession recovered. Several K-bentonites and phosphorites have also been identified. In ascending stratigraphical order, the following units are recognized in the core: Töyen Shale (8,67 m+), Komstad Limestone (7,44 m), Almelund Shale (42,28 m), and Sularp Shale (0,31 m+). The succession is comparable to those recovered from two other core drillings in the area. The lithologies indicate deposition in the deeper parts of the shelf in the Scanian Confacies Belt.
