Making a health insurance claim
Do you need to make a health insurance claim after receiving non-routine/urgent medical or dental care in Sweden? As a student at Lund University, you are normally covered by Student IN or FAS+. You also have personal injury insurance during school hours.
Different types of claims
There are different types of claim you can make, depending on the situation and your insurance cover.
Note that you can also make a claim if you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and/or a Swedish personal identity number, and you pay the same fees as Swedish citizens.
See below for three different situations:
- Claims following study/commuting accidents
- Claims for non-routine healthcare in Sweden
- Claims for routine healthcare in Sweden or healthcare outside Sweden
On the page below you can find out more about when each type of student insurance applies and when it doesn't:
Insurance for incoming students
Claims following study/commuting accidents
If you've been injured in an accident related to your studies or while travelling directly to or from the University, you'll need to see a doctor. Find the procedure and claim forms here:
Incidents and accidents related to your studies – personal injury insurance during school hours
Claims for non-routine healthcare in Sweden
If you've had to use Swedish health services for a non-routine or urgent health problem that's not directly related to your studies, you can find the relevant insurance policies and claim forms on the website of the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency (Swedish: 'Kammarkollegiet'). See the links below.
To make a claim, send the receipts and a completed claim form to your programme, course or exchange coordinator at Lund University. Your claim will be signed by your coordinator and sent to Kammarkollegiet. Normally it will take about three weeks for Kammarkollegiet to process your claim. Please make a copy of the application form and receipts for your own records.

Claims for routine healthcare in Sweden or healthcare outside Sweden
In most cases, you will need to make a claim through your private insurance for this type of healthcare.
EU/EEA students with a personal identity number and a Swedish European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) may (but don't have to) be an exception. Please read the information on this page carefully (especially the section with examples).
