What Larissa says about the Master's in European and International Trade and Tax Law
Larissa from Brazil
Why did you choose Lund University?
"To be honest, the main reason I chose Lund was because of the programme it offers. It's not easy to find European universities that provide English-taught courses focused on tax law from an international perspective. Moreover, Lund is a prestigious, world-renowned institution with a highly respected academic faculty, some of whom have even been awarded Nobel prizes. Furthermore, Lund offers an international environment that I believe will help me develop skills beyond academics."
What are your first impressions of your programme? Does it meet your expectations?
"The programme exceeded my expectations. Even though it has only been two months, it feels like I have grown significantly – not just as a tax law student, but also as an individual. Our workload was heavy, and we had to put in a lot of effort to keep up with the readings and prepare for the lectures, but it was all worth it. Having excellent professors and great classmates around us made the experience much more enjoyable and easier."
What have been the highlights of your first months in Lund?
"There are many things that I find remarkable about my experience so far. However, I believe the two main highlights are being surrounded by individuals from various parts of the world with diverse perspectives, and immersing myself in a rigorous academic routine that includes readings, workgroups, and seminar discussions. The level of intellectual discourse is impressive, and I feel grateful to be a part of such meaningful exchanges."
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"At first, I faced some challenges with the Swedish teaching style, but now I am enjoying it. It was difficult for me because I was not used to having the freedom to take my own path in my studies, which I have here at Lund. However, I have come to realise that the programme is designed for us, the students. Therefore, it is up to us to discover and target our main objectives and specialisations in our studies."
How international is your programme?
"The name of the programme, European and International Trade and Tax Law, is quite self-explanatory. Its global outlook is not only the most notable aspect of the programme, but it also reveals a lot about the students and faculty. With individuals from at least five different continents in one classroom, it is natural that the discussions and debates are guided towards an international perspective."
What are you most looking forward to in your programme?
"My primary goal is to specialise in international and European tax law to apply my knowledge in my future career. Additionally, I look forward to expanding my network by connecting with people from different parts of the world, such as students, professors, and faculty members. Lastly, I aim to develop additional skills through this experience of living abroad."
