Get Started Funding for research collaborations

The GloHub funding initiative aims to strengthen engagement between Lund University and
- National University of Singapore
- UC Berkeley and
- University of Melbourne.
It encourages collaborations across all academic disciplines that have the potential to lead to a sustainable partnership, externally funded projects and joint publications/education initiatives.
The funding covers costs associated with
- joint workshops/meetings (facilities, meals and technical support)
- travel and
- accommodation.
Salaries, consumables and scholarships are not eligible.

The following universities can participate:
- Lund University
- National University of Singapore
- UC Berkeley
- University of Melbourne.
The amount of funding is SEK 60,000. Activities can start after the award has been granted and must be completed by 31 December 2025.
To qualify, the participating researchers must:
- be employed at
- Lund University
- the National University of Singapore
- the University of California, Berkeley,
- or the University of Melbourne
- have obtained a doctoral degree.

The GloHub doctoral student mobility initiative aims to strengthen engagement between Lund University and the three GloHub partner universities:
- National University of Singapore
- UC Berkeley and
- University of Melbourne.
Doctoral students from National University of Singapore, UC Berkeley and University of Melbourne are invited to apply for a mobility grant to spend between one and three months at Lund University. The grant will enable the researchers to continue their education, pursuing their own research project during the mobility period, parallel to joining a research group and having a host supervisor at Lund University.
Doctoral student mobility can take place in any field of research.
The funding is a contribution to costs associated with travel and accommodation and other expenditures. Salary and visa costs are not included in the grant.

Applicants who are registered as doctoral students at the time of application and during the mobility at the following universities can participate:
- National University of Singapore
- UC Berkeley
- University of Melbourne
The funding is expected to contribute to additional costs during the mobility rather than salary, including travel, accommodation and subsistence costs. The recipients are expected to maintain their salary or other financial support from the home university during the mobility period.
The host department will receive the funding and pay for the flight ticket (up to a maximum of 25,000 SEK), accommodation (up to a maximum of 12,000 SEK/month) and a contribution to subsistence costs (up to a maximum of 5,000 SEK/month).
To qualify, the participating doctoral student must:
- Be registered as a doctoral student at the time of application and during the whole mobility period at
- the National University of Singapore
- the University of California, Berkeley, or
- the University of Melbourne
- not have obtained a doctoral degree
- have an invitation letter from a supervisor at a host department/research group at Lund University
- have a support letter with confirmation that you have the permission of your head of department to undertake the mobility alongside your research/studies.
Other conditions:
- The mobility period can start from 1 September and must be completed by 31 July 2026.
- The stay at Lund University must be for a sustained period and cannot be divided into shorter stays.
- All the recipients will be insured through the Swedish State Business travel insurance by Kammarkollegiet.
- Visa costs are not included in the grant.
- Lund University does not charge any fees for the stay.
- An interrupted stay entails a repayment obligation.
The selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Clarity of plan for development of skills and competencies
- Relevance of host institution’s resources and expertise
- Clarity of vision and added value of the mobility
- Balanced participation between the GloHub universities.

The applicant doctoral student submits the application through a special application form. The application should include a short description of the aim of the visit, a motivation statement, an invitation letter from the host department at Lund University and a support letter from the home department.

The assessment is carried out by representatives from the International Office at Lund University. Keep this in mind when submitting your application and use language that is appropriate for evaluators who do not possess specialist expertise in the project’s scientific field.

It encourages collaborations across all academic disciplines that have the potential to lead to externally funded research projects and joint publications.
The funding is intended to cover costs associated with visits of participants from Lund University and the partner university in relation to:
- workshops/meetings (such as facilities, meals and technical support)
- travel
- subsistence and
- accommodation.
Salaries, consumables and scholarships are not eligible.

The funding is aimed at researchers with a doctoral degree employed at Lund University and research colleagues with a doctoral degree at selected partner universities in countries that have recently joined, or are about to join, the Horizon Europe programme.

These are the evaluation criteria:
- Quality and feasibility of the planned activities
- Strategic value of the collaboration
- Sustainability of the collaboration: potential for subsequent larger collaboration projects and for generating external funding.
