Introducing Karyne
Hi! My name is Karyne and I'm the student ambassador for the course Study Abroad: Swedish as a Foreign Language 1-8. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the courses, student life, and life in Lund and Sweden via the Unibuddy Platform, where you can chat with me (see below). Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships, or residence permits.
About the programme and the teaching style
Why did you choose Lund University?
"I chose Lund for its reputation and for offering something very unique when it comes to my programme."
What do you think of your programme so far? Does it meet your expectations?
"It is beyond my expectations. My programme is very well organised and everyone taking the courses are very engaged and eager to learn. I am very happy I got in, as it is a very competitive programme."
What is the best thing about your programme?
"I would say the structure of the courses. Since I am learning Swedish, the programme touches in all areas necessary to achieve proficiency in the language."
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"It is very different from anything I’ve experienced before. There is an emphasis on self-responsibility for the students – you need to do your part and study both before and after classes to keep up with the level of discussion in class."
How international is your programme?
"It is very international – we have people from all around the world!"
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies?
"Of course, I am now able to hold conversations in Swedish which is great progress for me."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"I honestly think it's one of the best programmes out there. Everything about the programme is very well organised and you immersed in the language. Of course, we need to do our part, but Lund is offering their best."
Thoughts on spare time and tips for prospective students
What do you do in your spare time?
"I try to continue learning passively by talking with friends, going for fikas (coffee break) and etc."
Do you have any advice for students that are considering coming to Lund?
"My advice to everyone considering applying to Swedish as a Foreign Language is: do it! You won't regret! It is a really a great programme!"
