What Danielle says about the Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Danielle from the USA
Why did you choose Lund University and why did this particular programme appeal to you?
"I studied abroad at Lund University and enjoyed it so much that I decided to apply to different Master’s programmes that seemed relevant to my interests. This one was my top choice as I’m interested in the development of green supply chain management. One of the things that really swayed my decision was the professors and the teaching style at LTH (Faculty of Engineering)."
Why should prospective students choose this programme? Do you have a favourite course?
"I would recommend this programme because it really does give you the hands-on skills you need to be able to work in the field after graduation. The professors are passionate about their individual subjects and you can see it through the research they are doing. Most courses have group-based projects which is incredibly helpful for developing your interpersonal skills and the projects tackle difficult/relevant problems within the industry. I feel like this style of assessment has allowed me to learn so much more as opposed to me working by myself. Overall, my favourite course so far has been Warehousing. It was difficult but also very rewarding and I walked away feeling like I learned a lot."
What do you think of the teaching style and the way of studying here? What are the lecturers and professors like?
"I really enjoy the teaching style but do have to admit that I may not be the best judge since most of the interactions have been online up until recently. I do feel like the lectures are generally engaging and the professors are passionate and always willing to answer questions."
What is the academic/learning environment like?
"During my Bachelor’s studies, I rarely had guest lecturers or interactions with companies/individuals who were working within my field of interest. At Lund, it is the complete opposite. There are always opportunities to meet with industry professionals which makes me feel optimistic about my future career prospects. I think that LTH as well as the individual professors put a lot of thought into facilitating opportunities for us in that sense and I really appreciate it."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies so far?
"I have gained a lot of experience recently in using simulation tools and some light coding experience during lab sessions."
Have you had any opportunities for networking within the programme? Do you work with companies?
"Yes! There are tons of opportunities to connect with companies. Almost all of the group projects are connected to a company and you interact with one or more of their employees."
You are a supplemental instruction leader (SI Leader). What is that?
Supplemental Instruction uses peer-led sessions to enable collaborative learning. So SI leaders are students who have successfully completed a course and they provide sessions for new students in traditionally difficult or transitional courses. I hold sessions once a week where I try to facilitate discussions related to difficult course content and provide new students with studying techniques.
What it is like to be an international student at Lund University and how international is your programme?
"I find it quite easy to be an international student. Everyone is super friendly and the group work really helps. There are also a lot of social activities and events put on by different organisations which make it impossible to feel lonely. Our programme only has six international students but our courses often times have more due to students who are here on exchange."
What is studying in Sweden like compared to studying in your country/other countries you studied in?
"Overall, it is quite similar to studying in the US. I feel like the courses require a lot of work but I am able to have a better work-life balance here as opposed to when I was studying in my home country."
What are you planning to do after your studies?
"In a broad sense, I am interested in working with green supply chain management. I am keeping it open-ended because environmental sustainability is impacting so much and there are so many exciting new companies coming to market that I’m unsure where I’ll end up!"
