What Michelle says about the Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Michelle from Sweden
What year did you graduate?
"I graduated in May 2022."
What is your current job and where is it located?
"I am currently working as a Supply Chain Consultant at Optilon in Stockholm. We offer companies different software to facilitate their end-to-end supply chain planning and optimise their business. In my position, I work both as an IT and management consultant analysing data and perform easier programming tasks, as well as running workshops and training sessions with customers."
How did you find your job and how long did it take?
"Optilon had a guest lecture in the Supply Chain Information System course which caught my interest for the company. I started looking for jobs at the beginning of the last semester of my Master's studies and had Optilon in mind. I applied for an open position and was offered the job before graduating."
Favorite thing about your job?
"Solving problems! I love the mix of IT and management consulting but the part where I get to use my programming skills to find the best way to solve issues for our customers, is one of the most exciting parts. I did not have a lot of programming skills when joining Optilon but that is something I have developed and learned throughout my job."
How are you contributing to change in the industry?
"By helping customers to optimise their business by using our software, we give them the opportunity to plan their supply chain in the most optimal and sufficient way. This means predicting more behavior, reducing inventory levels, raising delivery performance, and reducing resources used to do operations. We create a digital twin of companies supply chain which help them make data driven decisions. By optimising the supply chain, we help companies reduce their carbon footprint, manage waste efficiently and create visibility and transparency.
What was especially useful about the programme that you use in your everyday work?
"All supply chain and logistic related courses have helped me create fundamental knowledge of the industry. As a consultant, I meet several types of customers in different industries which means that I get to face different supply chains meeting various problems. Additionally, all courses working in project groups where you need to collaborate with your peers and have a project plan, is a great experience since this is reflected in many workplaces."
What do you miss most from your time at Lund University? Any highlights?
"Enjoying the student life in Lund with all that it involves – classmates, the student nations and cycling around the city.
How international was your programme?
"Very diverse! During my year, we had people from all over the world – China, India, Indonesia, Italy, USA, Sweden and Denmark."
What was the focus of your thesis?
"The focus of my thesis was to develop a decision-making framework for supply chain network reconfiguration which involved understanding what parameters drive decisions in supply chain management. Making decisions in supply chain management is a complex process with a ton of different inputs to consider. However, with today’s digital and data driven reality, supply chain managers are offered a variety of digital solutions to support and guide the decision-making. But how does an organisation navigate in this digital world and which parameters generates the optimal solutions, when one organisation’s supply chain network is as unique as the people driving it."

Additionally, the programme involves a great set of guest lectures and company visits where you get real life insight in the business."
