What Roger says about the Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

About the programme and the teaching style
How did you find out about Lund University and why did you choose to attend?
"I had the plan of going back to university for a Master’s degree, so I was already looking for a programme and found Lund University. I searched about the programme, the city, the Swedish lifestyle, and the labour market here. For me, it looked like a great opportunity that was related to my personal goals. Lund was a no-brainer choice because Sweden is such a wonderful country with an economy focused on innovation and sustainability. Lund University is among the 100 best universities in the world, and the MSc Logistics and Supply Chain is globally recognised as a great programme."
What do you think about your programme (so far)?
"It has been challenging but in a good way! The whole learning structure is well developed, the professors have a lot of experience, and my colleagues are always interested in participating. I had the expectation that it would be very rewarding, and it is living up to that so far. I can feel that I have been learning very much and also improving as a professional."
What is the best thing about your programme?
"The best thing certainly is all the content that is given on the courses and all the work that the students have to do together. This is always tied to relevant current facts and challenges of the modern world."
What do you think of the teaching style at Lund?
"The teaching style is completely different from what I am used to, where the students are just listeners. Here at Lund, students are motivated to work together and help each other to overcome their individual weaknesses. That way, the knowledge is not only built in class but in every moment where the students must strive together. "
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"It is an excellent option to improve their theoretical knowledge and, at the same time, earn some practical experience with internships. The university has very close relationships with local and international companies that can provide that opportunity. It is also very common to have guest lectures from companies and career fairs at the university."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies (so far)?
"As I am still at the beginning of the programme, so far I only had one experience of this kind. We went to visit the port of Trelleborg and were able to see its operation and understand the challenges related to the global supply chain field. Right now, I am looking for a summer internship position to broaden this kind of experience."
How international is your programme and what is it like to study in that kind of environment?
"It is very diverse in terms of nationalities but, at the same time, there are many Swedes in the classes. It is very nice to be closer to different people and learn a little about Swedish culture directly from the people. In addition, this nationality mix brings a unique debate of how different cultures can face the same problems in so many ways."
Thoughts on being an international student at Lund and tips for prospective students
What it is like to be an international student at Lund University?
"Lund is a vibrant city with an international community linked to the university. Being a student here is becoming part of a network of talented people from all around the world. This creates a safe environment where a person with any background can feel free to participate and where all ideas are valued."
Do you have any advice for other students that are considering coming to Lund?
"There are some points that should be considered in advance. The first is about accommodation. It can be tough to find one (if you do not have a housing guarantee) if you don’t start looking right away as it can increase your chances of finding a good place. Secondly, the university is very good at sending useful information and tips for new students, so keep an eye on your email and other forums. Lastly, don’t forget to enjoy this wonderful experience and have fun!"
What surprised you the most about Sweden?
"The people’s lifestyle surprised me the most. The impression that I have is that people here care a lot about balancing the different aspects of life. It is important to have a job, however, it is equally important to have time for yourself, family, and friends. As simple as this may look like, the actual lifestyle in other places of the world is going in the opposite direction."
Career preparation and planning
To what extent do you think your programme prepares you for a career in your field?
"I think that the planning for the MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management is incredibly good, both for the distribution of the courses along all periods and for their content. The students can feel that the main aspects of a future career are taken into consideration and that the discussions are always tied to modern content. Also, there is a nice collaboration between the University and several companies that often participate as guest lecturers or offer seminars for the students."
What are you planning to do after your studies?
"I am planning to stay in Sweden a little longer. I hope to get a job after my studies in a company that has a close relation to innovation and sustainability. I want to apply the knowledge learned in the courses and build a professional network here. Also, I am considering applying for a PhD position in the future, and I would love to do it at Lund University."
