What Weronika says about the Master's in Architecture
Introducing Weronika
Hi! My name is Weronika and I'm the student ambassador for the Master's programme in Architecture. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the programme, courses, student life, and life in Lund and Sweden via the Unibuddy Platform, where you can chat with me (see below). Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships, or residence permits.
About the programme and the teaching style
Why did you choose Lund University?
"I chose Lund University because of my ambition to pursue my architectural education in a Scandinavian country. After thorough research of the available options, I discovered that the course here was perfectly tailored to my needs while also being located in an attractive part of Sweden."
What do you think of your programme so far? Does it meet your expectations?
"The Master's programme in Architecture has been a great choice! Everything I expected has been fulfilled and has led me to many new experiences. I wholeheartedly treasure my time here and am positive that coming to Lund has been tremendously beneficial to my development."
What is the best thing about your programme?
"I am over the moon with how open the tutors are to various ideas, they allow for multifaceted creativity and help you reach your full potential. Furthermore, this is the first time in my life that I’ve had the chance to meet so many international people. The multicultural aspect of my course has been nothing short of amazing."
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"A characteristic of the programme is that we receive no grades – it’s a pass/fail system. Having the stress of pursuing a certain grade lifted off my shoulders has been wonderfully liberating. Thanks to that, I can focus more on creative exploration instead of worrying about fitting into a score threshold."
How international is your programme?
"As I mentioned, I have never been exposed to so many different cultures, worldviews, and national customs before. I am naturally a curious person, so the possibility of discovering what was previously unknown to me is a highlight of the programme."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"It’s a wonderful programme for people who want to develop their concept-building abilities while still engaging with the technical and structural aspects of architecture. I have never wanted to limit myself to just one of the two, so Lund has been a great choice for that."
Thoughts on being an international student at Lund, spare time and tips for prospective students
What is it like being an international student at Lund University?
"Lund prides itself on its internationality, and you can definitely tell why! During my time here, I have always felt welcome and cared for. If not for the Swedish language still being unfamiliar to me, I would be close to calling it home."
What do you do in your spare time?
"In my spare time, I enjoy browsing the Architecture and Design Library, where I have found books on every topic that I’ve felt the urge to explore! Moreover, after meeting many like-minded people, I felt motivated to pick up my previous hobbies (for example, cinematography), as I finally have the opportunity to share my unconstrained thoughts and be met with understanding."
What have been the highlights of your first year in Lund?
"Apart from everything I mentioned so far, I have truly loved the fact that Swedish people pay attention to their surroundings. Though I enjoy the crispness of the weather here, the contrasting coziness of the interiors is a value I cherish about Scandinavian design. As an architecture student, you will spend a majority of your time in the studio, so the way the environment around you is shaped strongly affects your well-being."
Do you have any advice for students that are considering coming to Lund?
"If you are about to start your Master’s, two years might seem like a lifetime, but believe me – it will pass in a blink of an eye. Cherish each moment here, and do not be afraid to stand up for what you believe in. Remember that development comes only through exposing yourself to the unknown, so don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone!"
