The purpose of this master thesis is to get a deeper knowledge and understanding of the European Union’s vision and strategy on peacebuilding in Colombia. By investigating the main messages and meanings as expressed by the European Union in the empirical material, The European Union Trust Fund for Colombia and The Multi-annual Indicative Programme 2021-2027, this thesis seeks to identify the ideas and plans that constitute the EU’s vision and strategy on peacebuilding in Colombia. Through descriptive idea analysis as a methodology together with the theoretical framework of the dichotomy of negative-positive peace, in combination with the theoretical tool of the lowest level of the peacebuilding pyramid, it has been possible to establish the ideas and plans that together contribute to the creation of the EU’s vision and strategy regarding peacebuilding in the country. The research shows that the European Union’s vision and strategy are characterized by the union’s ambition to build bridges between all levels of society, emphasizing the importance of local communities and civil society organizations and their connection with the Colombian Governmental authorities and institutions. Moreover, the research also shows that the EU’s vision and strategy on peacebuilding in Colombia correspond to the dichotomy of negative-positive peace and its ambition to reach all levels of society while creating a positive peace culture. Ultimately, it can also be established that the European Union’s vision and strategy on peacebuilding in Colombia are influenced by its ambition to strengthen reconciliation and create stable, peaceful relationships between all groups of society. However, it can be concluded that the EU’s own interest to become an influential global peace actor, is also contributing to its vision and strategy on peacebuilding in Colombia.
