The exact number of students who will begin their studies in Lund will not be known until after the course registration at the start of the semester.
On Arrival Day for the spring semester, the majority of students welcomed are exchange students and a number of Erasmus+ Joint Programme students. All international Master's programmes start in the autumn semester. The engineering faculty and the School of Economics and Management host the largest number of exchange students, while the Faculty of Humanities and Theology offers the most courses specifically tailored for international students, known as SAS courses. The most popular SAS course is Introduction to Scandinavian Culture and Society, which this year has accepted 59 out of 127 applicants.
Students welcoming students
In Spring 2025 nearly 200 students are working as international mentors to welcome the new students. About 100 of them will be active during Arrival Day, playing a key role in providing personal service and support to the newcomers. Through the international mentor program, international students are connected with already established students, which is an invaluable resource when settling into a new city and culture.
Arrival Day: A smooth first day in Lund
During Arrival Day, students are guided from Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen and then from Lund Central Station to the Ingvar Kamprad Design Center (IKDC). At the IKDC, they check in, receive keys to their student accommodation, get help activating SIM cards, and have the opportunity to meet with various organizations that assist with settling in Sweden. There is also the option to purchase bed linen, such as duvets, pillows, and sheets.
Once the students are ready, transport to their accommodation in Lund is provided.
Orientation Week: An introduction to the University and life in Lund
After Arrival Day, Orientation Week begins and runs until the start of the semester. During this time, new students will receive a thorough introduction to both Lund University and life in Lund. The program includes practical information, an introduction to the university’s resources, and insights into student life and Swedish culture. Nations, student unions, other student organizations, as well as external actors such as AF Bostäder, Lund Municipality, Erikshjälpen, Skånetrafiken, and the Police also contribute to Orientation Week to ensure a smooth a start to student life.
