What Réka says about the Master's in Psychology
Introducing Réka
Hi! My name is Réka and I'm the student ambassador for the Master's programme in Psychology. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the programme, courses, student life, and life in Lund and Sweden via the Unibuddy Platform, where you can chat with me (see below). Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships, or residence permits.
Why did you choose Lund University?
"I chose Lund University for two main reasons. Firstly, it is a highly ranked university in the world, offering great advancements in future work opportunities. Secondly, as an EU citizen, I was eligible for a tuition-free programme. This was really important for me because otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to finance living and studying in a foreign country."
What are your first impressions of your programme? Does it meet your expectations?
"My only expectation was that it would be challenging to keep up with the dynamics of the courses, which made me anxious to start the programme. However, the reality has been much more positive. The first semester started at a relaxed pace with manageable lessons and assignments. I appreciate that they let us warm up to this new setting gradually, while still keeping up the motivation and interest in us."
What have been the highlights of your first months in Lund?
"The highlights would definitely be the social programs organized by the Lund International Masters Society of Psychology (LISP). Their events were specifically organised for our class which greatly helped us with build deeper connections with one another. Undoubtedly, having these events was an advantage in the first few weeks when everyone was trying to find their place in Sweden and at the university. I feel like we have developed a strong bond amongst our peers in the class that was notably supported by all these exciting LISP events (icebreaker events, sittning, hikes, Halloween, etc.) And it’s just the start!"
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
It is somewhat new for me in certain aspects. Here, classes are much more centered on group work and active participation rather than mostly sticking to frontal teaching (like how the majority of my courses were at home). Although it’s an adjustment, I find it more effective, as I learn through putting theoretical knowledge into practice (for instance, by conducting a small research project to learn how to work with Open Science Framework)."
How international is your programme?
"I would say it’s very international. With a cohort of 40 students, we have about 15 different nationalities. Although most of the students are from European countries, we have representation from four non-EU countries, which adds to the diversity."
What are you most looking forward to in your programme?
In our second and third semesters, we’ll have specifications (tracks) of three fields of psychology out of five: Social, Personality, Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental and Work/Organizational psychology. I’m excited about this because, in this way, I can have a deeper insight into those fields that interest me most. It could even accumulate and lead to connections between these fields that I could explore further in my master’s thesis or future projects.
Stay tuned! A more comprehensive testimonial from this student will be published once they have completed their first semester at Lund and have more insights to share about their programme.
