What Sylvana says about the Master's in Psychology
Sylvana from Spain
Why did you choose Lund University?
"There are many reasons as to why I selected Lund University. My initial interest in Lund arose when I heard how well-designed the courses were from friends and family who were attending. This led me to explore the extensive body of research conducted at the psychology department, making the choice very appealing. However, what truly solidified my decision was the specialised courses available within the Master’s programme and the freedom to tailor the practical work to align with my interests and future goals."
What are your first impressions of your programme? Does it meet your expectations?
"It has beyond exceeded my expectations. I am continuously impressed with the quality and diversity of the topics taught. My first course focusing on the philosophy of psychology and practical research methods has been fascinating so far. Furthermore, everyone here, staff and students alike, are very enthusiastic and kind people which makes the study environment a joy to be in. I am thrilled that I chose Lund, and I am very much looking forward to what more the programme has to offer."
What have been the highlights of your first months in Lund?
"From the beginning, the education has been captivating and I really enjoyed the excellent fresher week organised by LISP (Lund International Masters Society of Psychology) where the class got to know each other and explored the city through a range of fun activities. Since then, I have also appreciated the cultural atmosphere and events (museums, student nations, art, and culture nights) in and outside of town."
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"The teaching style in Sweden is characterised by a lot of collaborative learning through group projects, seminars, and discussions. Students are given a high degree of freedom and responsibility, which is great because it encourages us to be creative when applying our skills to practical work. I really appreciate the Swedish approach; it has been very engaging, effective, and fun so far."
How international is your programme?
"The international Master’s Programme in Psychology certainly lives up to its name! It has people attending from all over the world. My class has students from fourteen different countries spanning five continents. It is very rewarding to share a classroom with so many different cultural backgrounds and life experiences, the diversity of ideas makes for very interesting discussions and insights."
What are you most looking forward to in your programme?
"I am most looking forward to the opportunity to specialise in my preferred fields within psychology next semester. I am especially eager to develop and apply my understanding of cognitive neuroscience to experimental projects. There is a lot of novel and exciting research being conducted at the Department of Psychology at Lund and it’s a privilege to learn from so many experts."
